It’s good to be home

Chuck, Nicholas and I have been home for just over a day now, and I am loving it!  I’m glad for the amount of time we spent at the hospital; it was just long enough to feel like we got everything we needed out of our stay and plenty of help with nursing and caring for Nicholas but not so long that we were homesick.

We got home yesterday at a little after 2:00 or so, and my dad and Grammy (Great Grammy now!) came to visit with Nicholas before taking my mom home.  Chuck and I walked around the block (slowly and just once) before everyone left, and we ran into our next door neighbors and gave them the good news to spread while we went back in for our first night as a family at home.

We all went upstairs around midnight and pretty much went right to sleep.  Nicholas woke up around 2 am for a feeding, then went back to sleep until almost 4:30 am.  We tried to relax him for a bit, but he really wanted to eat again, so I fed him again.  This time, he went back to sleep until about 8:30 am!  I woke up startled that we hadn’t heard from him in so long, I freaked out and had to touch him to make sure he was okay, which of course he was!

We all had breakfast; of course, Nicholas was first, then Keanu, then Chuck and me.  Chuck showered, then I nursed again and showered before Grandma Chris, Grandpa Mike and Great Aunt Carolyn came over to visit and bring lots of presents!  After they went home, we went on our first walk around the block as a family.

Busy and tiring, yet this is so much more than I could have ever asked for!  I’m feeling well, recovering well from surgery, our son is really, really wonderful…this is the life!  :)

Glad to hear everything is going so well. Keep with it for the nursing! I know it’s hard in the beginning- they eat so often- but before you know it it won’t be so bad. Tricia was a big baby too- 9 lbs 12 oz – and we made it. Hang in there!
