Nicky and I survived our week while Chuck was in Columbus! We were busy, but not too much so.
Monday, I had to work 5-9, so Nicky went next door with Katie, Chris and Rylie. He did really well, especially considering that it was the first time he’d ever been away from either Chuck or I for that long. He had a great time playing with Katie while Rylie took a nap, then he ate a great dinner and surfed the net with Katie while waiting for me to come home. He must have been on overdrive, because I put him to bed by 9:30 and he was awake until after 10. He slept well, though, and a little bit late the next day.
On Tuesday, my mom came to visit. We went to the Christmas Tree Shops and then Ulta Beauty, then came home for lunch. Nicky took a good nap while my mom and I looked around the Internet for Christmas presents and I set up the rocking chair that she bought for him. He woke up just in time to have his first iChat with his cousin Abbie. It was very cute; they both kept pointing at the computer monitors and saying, “baby”. My mom stayed overnight, and we went to Target on Wednesday before she went back home.
Yesterday, Thursday, Margaret and Parker came over to play. I made these pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for everyone to enjoy, and they did! Nicky’s never had chocolate before, and it was a hit with him! He also said his first “sentence” – “Sticks, please!”. (He calls these Keebler crackers “sticks”.) I can’t believe he put together two separate thoughts, WOW! Later, he added a new word to his already long list, when I put a barette in my hair. He kept saying “brrette” and it was really cute!
This morning, we went to the library. We had a very nice time, just like always. Nicky loves to read the books and look at all the other babies.
We used iChat to video conference with Chuck every day, at least once. It was really great and definitely felt good to be so closely in touch with each other. Every time we went upstairs, Nicky said “Dada”, and if I said “Daddy”, he got all excited and ran right into the computer room. While that was really sweet, I’m glad that he’ll be able to kiss his daddy good night tonight. He’s been up a little bit late every night this week, so I think I’ll try to keep him up to see Chuck when he gets home.
Chuck should be home around 9pm. He finished taking the second part of the certification exam (over 2 hours early!) and is on his way home now. He already knows that he passed the first part and is pretty sure he passed the second part – yay, Chuck! He said that traffic in Columbus is really horrible and that he might be stuck in the city for awhile, but he should be home in about 6 hours. As long as he’s safe, I don’t care how long it takes. He’s been through much worse, like when he drove through the snowstorm from Washington, D.C. when I was pregnant with Nicky. This should be cake for him!
Even though we both missed Chuck so much, we really had a great week together. Every day, Nicky is growing and learning so much. It is such a joy to watch it all happen!
He’s waking up from his nap now, so I think we’ll take a quick run to Wegmans to pick up some things before Chuck gets home.
