Changing

At his last doctor’s appointment, Nicky had two vaccinations that he hasn’t had yet; the chickenpox one and the MMR.  The pediatrician told me that a rash and/or a fever commonly occur about a week after.  On Monday, exactly one week after the shots, nothing happened, so I thought we were in the clear.  The next day, however, NIcky got a fever in the afternoon.  He was really miserable and didn’t sleep well but was better in the morning.  The fever came back but not as bad that night and he still didn’t sleep well.  On Thursday, though, Nicky took over three hours for his nap and seemed to be much better.

His behavior, though, is definitely changing.  He has been very irritable and defiant.  He looks right at us and does something that he knows he’s not supposed to, like taking an ornament off the Christmas tree or throwing his cup on the floor.  I know it’s his was of showing his independence and learning, but I’m really not sure how we’ll survive the “terrible twos” at this rate.  Hopefully this is just a short stage…

Nicky’s new favorite word lately – “naw-nee” (naughty).

Speed Bump

Here is a link to a funny comic that I couldn’t seem to post directly on our page.

***According to my sister, this really isn’t that funny.  I guess it just really shows how things change in life; I probably wouldn’t have laughed at this a few years ago, before we had our own house and garden to care for!

Some new photos

I’ve posted some new photos here.  I recently bought a Beco baby carrier and am LOVING it!  I carry Nicky around on my back when doing all sorts of things like making dinner and shopping and it definitely makes things easier while I get a free massage!  So, there are a bunch of photos of us enjoying it.

Oh, and the name of the style we ended up purchasing is “Abby”, which we thought was fitting, since that’s our neice’s name (spelled differently).  :)

Economic happiness

A good thing for us, I think we’ve finally broken even on the cloth diapers.  I really didn’t keep track as specifically as I’d like, but the general thought is that after using cloth diapers for about 3-4 months it would be well worth it financially.  It’s been six months since we’ve started, so yay for that!  There are some diapers that make me wish I didn’t do it, but mostly, I’m really glad that we made this decision to switch.  :)

Nicky updates

We had Nicky’s 15-month pediatrician visit on Monday.  He weighed 22 pounds, 3 ounces (but he was wearing a diaper, so probably only 22 pounds even) and measured 32.5 inches long.  He always measures longer at the doctor’s office, though; I think their squishy mat that he lays on adds height.  We measured him at 31 inches a couple of weeks ago.  Anyway, he’s in the 90th percentile for height and the 25th percentile for weight.  No surprises there; he’s tall and skinny like Chuck, like we already knew.

Lately, any time Nicky hurts himself, he says “bump” and Chuck or I have to kiss the bump.  Then he says “a-ba” for “all better”.  What he just started doing a couple of days ago is hitting his hand on his high chair tray or his leg and saying “bump” so that we’ll kiss it!  This coming from the boy who runs away and squeals when I ask for a kiss…

He’s also getting really good with the alphabet.  He still says most of the words that begin with the letter and not really the letter names, but now, when I ask him to get a certain letter, he can find it!  I’m really impressed with him!

He’s developing nice manners.  If he burps, he says “scuze” for “excuse me”.  That’s an improvement from “burp” every time!

A couple of things I thought of after I posted this:

Nicky loves zippers.  He says “ip” and is getting really good at them!

If I want Keanu to clean up something we’ve spilled onto the floor, I’ll point to it and say “here” and now Nicky copies me.  Speaking of that, if I tell him “no”, he repeats it in a high-pitched voice.  Maddening, but very cute!

Some cute words:

  • mistletoe (“ptoe”)
  • pajamas (“pa-ja”)
  • put it back (“pa-back”)
  • orange (“o-wa”)

The cuteness doesn’t end, that’s for sure!  :)

Shopping for Nicky’s college fund

Shopping through this link will help put money into Nicky’s college fund, just in case anyone is interested.

If You Take a Mouse to the Movies

…Nicky will want to read about it over and over and over again!  We got that book for $1 from my mom’s Scholastic forms through day care.  We read it for the first time before he went to bed last night; we read it again for the second, third and fourth times before he really needed to go to sleep.  We read it again about 10 more times day.  He even asks for it – he says “moo-ees”, so cute!

We let Nicky try soy ice cream for the first time and he loved it!  Chuck got snickerdoodle cookie-dough and it was yummy!

We had a really great Thanksgiving yesterday with our families.  It was a wonderful day to count our blessings and be thankful for all that we have!

I’ve taught my child a lot of words

Nicky now says so many words that I haven’t updated the list on the side of the page in probably a month.  He says “neh-neek” for “technique” when he’s going to sit on the potty.  He says “op-kee” for “ice cream”.  He says new stuff all the time and I can’t believe it. Oh, and sure to be a hit at Thanksgiving, he says “tart” because he can’t pronounce the “f” sound yet.  My grandma is going to love it…

He’s really doing well with the alphabet, too – when I sing the ABC’s to him, I can stop at a letter and most of the time, he’ll say it.  He does that with books, too…I can stop in the story somewhere and he’ll say the next word.  I just love it!

Facebook

I’m a little bit addicted to Facebook.  I joined on Friday because Rebecca sent me a link and I thought I’d check out her site.  Turns out, she hasn’t even been on and I’ve already got a whole bunch of friends already.  It’s very kewl…

Makeover

I had some fun this morning…check it out here!
