Technique

Whenever Nicky sits down on the potty by himself, I tell him that I like his technique.  He started to repeat the word, which comes out “nee-nek”.  Does the cuteness ever end?  (By the way, he says “coot” now for cute.)

Growth spurt

We measured Nicky on October 18th (about 3 weeks ago), and he was 30 inches tall.  We measured him again today, since we’ve noticed that he’s gotten a pretty good reach over the past few days, and he’s just a hair under 31 inches!  That explains why he’s been eating like a piggy and sleeping really well lately.

Favorite words

Nicky says so much stuff now that I can’t keep up with the list on the side of the website.  We all have our favorite words that he says:

  • Chuck – elbow
  • Jen – pancake (it comes out “papke”, so CUTE!)
  • Nicky – barrette (pronounced “brette” and he says it all the time!)
  • Keanu – sit (Nicky tells him to sit before we let him outside.)

Learning

Nicky really blows my mind these days.  Here’s what he’s up to:

  • He’s putting together phrases more now, usually “more” something or something “please”.
  • We’re spending lots of quality time on the potty chair.  I’ve been having success about once a day, so that’s a start!
  • Chuck brought an alphabet puzzle for Nicky when he came home from Columbus.  It’s a wooden puzzle with pictures of things that start with each letter under the cutout.  Not only can Nicky put together the puzzle well, he is starting to recognize many of the letters!  He can’t really pronounce most of them, but he looks at the letter and immediately says the name of the word that begins with the letter.  I can’t believe how quickly he’s picked up on letters already!
  • He walks backwards sometimes; it’s very cute!

Meanwhile, I’m am absolutely LOVING Wii Fit!  There are lots of things to do to keep me busy and working out without even realizing it.  I’ve been making good use of Nicky’s naptime every day this week, and I’ve unlocked lots of things already.  I particularly like hula-hooping, step aerobics and rhythm boxing.  The balance games are lots of fun, too…you get a very good core workout without even realizing it, my kind of fun!

More photos

I just uploaded and captioned the most recent photos here!  Finally…

The Halloween ones are at the end.  Enjoy!

Wii’re going to be Fit!

We finally jumped on the bandwagon and got a copy of Wii Fit for ourselves!  It’s been EXTREMELY difficult to find, both in stores and online, but there was finally a shipment this week and a whole bunch of stores had it advertised in the paper this morning.  We called Toys R Us this morning and found out that they had it in stock, so we pretty much dropped everything and went over there.  (I didn’t even do my hair and Chuck likened me to Don King.)  I think that since our store is kind of away from the main strip and in a plaza with a bunch of boring stuff that the copies didn’t sell out so quickly and gave us a chance to get it.

Right now, Chuck is doing a balance game where he’s doing a ski jump and having a blast!  So far, we did some strength training exercises and a few aerobic ones.  There’s hula-hooping, running and stepping that we’ve done so far, and we were both surprised at how winded we were after we were done.  This really looks like a fun thing for us to do on a mostly daily basis that will help us to reach our fitness goals.  During the nicer weather, it’s been very easy for me go take a walk outside with Nicky, but now that it’s getting so cold, I don’t want to spend as much time outside.  This will be perfect for me to do while Nicky naps in the afternoon!

Now, Chuck’s doing the warrier pose with his fitness trainer.  Looks like fun, so I’m off to try it!

A couple of photos

I just posted a few photos that Chuck took of Abbie on his trip to Columbus.  She’s a cutie for sure!

Halloween

Happy day-after Halloween!  We had a great day; Nicky and I went to the library in the morning and he got to show off his monkey costume:

We put his costume on again to show the neighbors and trick-or-treaters later on in the evening and got a few photos that I’ll upload to the site when I get a free moment.  I happened to look back to last year and found that lots of things can change in a year’s time:

Last yearThis year

Look how different both Nicky and I look from last year!

Congratulations, Chuck!

I forgot to follow up and mention that Chuck passed his exam and is now a Red Hat Certified Engineer!  He gets to add the letters RHCE at the end of his name and has made himself quite a bit more marketable.

I’m very proud of you, Chuck!  :)

A world of training pants

Well, Nicky’s not potty-trained yet.  That’s okay with me…he does acknowledge the potty and sometimes he’ll even sit down for a second.  He’s also been making a habit of telling me “potty” when he’s about to go, so that’s a step in the right direction.  I honestly never expected anything like this so soon.

So, in an effort to be more prepared for when he’s really ready, I’ve been looking for training pants.  I thought I’d just run to Target and pick up a pack of Gerber ones that my mom probably used for me (potty-trained by 18 months, by the way!).  Leave it to Margaret to show me that there’s MUCH more out there…

She showed me these VERY cute training pants that have snaps on the side, a clever addition to the pull-up training pant.  I’ve been poking around DiaperSwappers to see if anyone has any good deals, and of course found several other brands that people like and recommend.  Man, they’re just training pants!  For now, BabyCenter was having a sale so I bought five pairs (three Gerber and two Potty Scotty).  They all got good reviews, so we’ll start with those and see how it “goes”.  :)

I cannot believe how much my priorities in life have changed!
