Almost 38 weeks!

I had my 37-week OB visit yesterday.  Everything looks good – we’ll have ONE more visit with Dr. Gabel before the baby is born, wow!  By now, Nicky knows exactly what happens at the appointments and tells us all what to do next.  It’s our turn when the nurse comes out and calls, “Jennifer”, then I pee in a cup, then wash my hands, then stand on the scale, then Nicky stands on the scale (still 26 pounds), then we go into the room.  The nurse takes my blood pressure, we wait for the doctor, then I lie down on the paper, the doctor measures my belly, then he/she gets out the microphone (Doppler) and listens to the baby, then wipes off my belly.  Nicky’s always a step ahead; it’s very cute!

Agility

Nicky has really grown so much lately – I can’t believe how big he’s gotten and how he’s able to do SO MUCH now!  Every time I take him to a playground, I’m so impressed with how much more he can do on his own that the last time.  He can climb lots of things that I think are too big for him and he’s really good at it!

Two-year photos

Here is a link to Nicky’s 2-year photos from JC Penney.  Love ‘em!

Cloth diaper update

I wanted to make a comment about a poor customer service situation I dealt with recently.  I don’t know how many people will see my post or even care, but it might make me feel better to air my grievances.  Both Margaret and I had bought a Wahmies diaper to try out.  Several months ago, Margaret told me that after a heavy-duty wash, the plastic lining inside the outer waterproof layer had started to peel.  She called the company and got a replacement, even though it was a second (irregular and no warranty).  Margaret has warned me about this MANY times; this time I did my heavy-duty wash, it happened to me.  Here’s my e-mail to the company:

Hi!  I bought a Wahmies second and LOVED it for several reasons – the liner is soft and wears so much better than the fleece used on other brands and the hook fasteners are great!  However, I’m very disappointed to find that the plastic lining inside the outer layer has started to peel and made my diaper unusable.
I understand that this diaper was a second and am not looking for a refund or replacement, but I felt that I should comment because the same thing happened to a friend of mine.  I have been washing several other brands of diapers the same way and have not had that happen.
At this time, I would not feel comfortable purchasing another Wahmies product or recommending them to a friend.
I wanted to share this information.  Thank you so much for your time!

Here is the response I received:

Thank you for your comments and feedback.  While I can not help you with your diaper our lamination is warrantied for 1 year from purchase date and you should inform your friend that she should contact us to get a replacement for her diaper that is doing this. This is not typical for our diapers.
Lisa

I felt that this was a rude response, and I will not consider buying any of their products in the future.  I would have been happy with something along the lines of “thanks for letting us know – we’ll look into it and see if we can improve our product”.  Looking around, it appears that other people have had the same types of experiences dealing directly with the company.  Thank goodness there are many other brands to choose from, and I, again, like bumGenius better than all the rest.  Like I said, I know there aren’t lots of people in the market for these types of products, but I feel the need to share the story of the poor customer service I received.

Happy 2nd birthday, Nicky!

Our baby is 2 years old today!  When I asked what he wanted for lunch, he said “pancakes”, so Chuck and I made these very easy pancakes for lunch.  Yum!  We’ve had a very nice day so far; everyone slept in a little bit.  After breakfast, Nicky opened his birthday presents from us, then we all took Keanu to the vet for a checkup.  We came home and Nicky played with some of his new toys and had lots of fun before and after lunch.  Now that it’s his naptime, the sun has FINALLY come out, so hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors a little bit when he wakes up!

35-week OB visit

Nicky and I went to see Dr. Gabel again this morning. Nothing thrilling; we just had the usual check-up. Everything still looks good; I’m huge. He said that I shouldn’t be surprised to start feeling lots of pressure now, which is EXACTLY what I’m feeling, because of the stress on all of my already stretched ligaments from the last 9-and-1/2-pounder. I asked Dr. Gabel if he had an estimate about the size of the baby, and he said that if I make it to my due date (!!!) that it’ll be about 9 pounds, which I’d imagined. We’ll see…

My next visit will be one week from today with Dr. Dwyer, whom I’ve never met, which is fine. If I wanted to see either Dr. Kerpelman or Dr. Gabel, I’d have to come in on Monday, which is just silly. I’ll be 36 weeks along tomorrow, so I feel like it’s too early to go back in after 3 days. I’ve heard she’s nice, as is everyone in the office, so I’m not worried.

25 days to go! :)

34-week OB visit

Friday was my most recent visit to the OB.  I saw Dr. Kerpelman again and had a pretty uneventful visit.  Everything looks good and I’m already starting my weekly visits!  Four more visits and we’ll have a new baby, wow!

Some new photos

Here is a link to some photos from the past couple of weeks.  We’ve been having such a fun summer!

Another fruit cobbler

I made this fruit cobbler for dessert tonight.  It wasn’t too much different from the last one, except that I used peaches.  I’d make it again for sure, but I might use a smaller pan next time, maybe a 9-inch square instead of a 9X13 so that the cakey part is a bit thicker.  Still good, though…I’m going back for seconds right now!  :9

Sunday Best Fruit Salad

I guess it’s fitting that I made this recipe to take to our old neighbor’s house for dinner on Sunday.  It was good and even Nicky loved it!  I’ll definitely make it again.
