New photos

I’ve uploaded some recent photos to our site here.  Nicky’s such a cutie!

A hidden gem

Stacy and Riley came over earlier this week and Stacy mentioned Pineway Ponds Park to me – what fun!  They have a nice playground, and they also have a water park with sprinklers.  Margaret and I took Parker and Nicky today and had a blast – we’ll definitely go back!

This week

Nicky and I went to see Dr. Kerpelman for my 28-week OB visit.  It was pretty uneventful; my glucose test was negative, so I don’t have gestational diabetes.  My blood pressure was good, and we heard the baby’s heartbeat.  I’ve gained about 35 pounds, yikes, but I’m trying not to freak out about it because the weight gain slows down in the last trimester, thank goodness!  I gained 30 pounds with Nicky and then lost about 25 after I lost the baby weight, so I started much lower this time.  Nobody at my doctor’s office seems worried, so I won’t, either.  I’m now up to visits every two weeks instead of every month.

Nicky is obsessed with “Puff, the Magic Dragon” lately.  My mom got him a beautifully illustrated hardcover book with a CD for Easter, and he’s loved it for a while.  I just got out the CD a few days ago, and he wants to keep listening to it over and over and OVER.  Not that I don’t love Peter, Paul and Mary, but it’s starting to get a little bit old.

Tonight before bed, Nicky said, “I have an idea” and we asked what it was.  “Wanna read ‘Puff, the Magic Dragon’!”  Imagine that…

The big move

Nicky has been napping regularly in the big-boy bed for about a week now.  He’s asked a couple of times to sleep there at night, too, but he’s backed out at the last minute.  Last night, he was crystal clear that that’s where he wanted to sleep, so we let him and he didn’t wake up at all until 8 o’clock this morning!  He was so proud of himself when I went in there this morning!

So, after breakfast, I cleaned the rest of the non-kid stuff out of his closet and put the rest of his clothes in there and I moved a few more toys in there for him.  Now, the big-boy room is officially his and the nursery and crib are for the baby.  Nicky appears to understand that the baby will sleep in the crib when (s)he comes out of my belly.

I can’t believe he’s already in there!  We took advantage of the week Chuck had off to get stuff done and we thought we’d have to inch him in there by his birthday.  My boy isn’t a baby any more!

Fourth of July

We had the very best day yesterday!  We all slept in a little bit and had a relaxing morning around the house, then went to Michelle and and David’s house on Grand Island for a picnic in their backyard (right on the water – gorgeous!).  It was so great to see everyone; we don’t get to see the Gruener side of the family very much.  We left a little bit later than we’d originally planned, but it actually worked out perfectly because Nicky was wide awake for the ride home and enjoyed seeing lots of fireworks on the way.  Right as we pulled into our driveway, the fireworks at the elementary school about a mile from our house were starting, so we had a fantastic view from our driveway.  Chuck, Nicky and I snuggled under a blanket and enjoyed fireworks together and it was just incredible!  We haven’t let Nicky stay up that late since he was probably three or four months old, but it was SO worth it – it was great to see his reaction to all of the colors and sounds!  He even slept in a little bit more today to make up for it, so double yay!  :)

So true

This comic was in our Sunday paper and Chuck and I both got a chuckle out of it.

A big clue

I just got a phone call from my doctor’s office; my C-section is on September 22nd at 7:30am with Dr. Gabel, the OB who delivered Nicky.  I was originally hoping to get a 9:30am appointment so that I could get Nicky up in the morning and tell him about what would happen that day so that he would be prepared, but he’ll be just fine.  By the time he wakes up and my mom gives him breakfast and gets him dressed, it’ll probably be almost time for them to come to the hospital to visit us, so that’s okay.

So, the link for Round 2 of the Gruener Baby Game is on the right side of the blog, under “Links”.  For those of you who’ve already voted, let me know if you want to change your guess, or just add a new one in there and I can delete the old one.

Another hint:  Nicky was born at 42 weeks and was 9 pounds, 9 ounces and 21 and 1/4 inches long.  Baby #2 will be born at 39 and 1/2 weeks.  Good luck!  :)

Big-boy room

We put the finishing touches on Nicky’s big-boy room this evening – he’s all set to move in!  He had such a great nap in there this afternoon and told Chuck that he wanted to sleep in there tonight, so we got all ready to get him in there and he decided to go back to the crib at the last minute.  That’s okay; we’re not ready for him to be unleashed quite yet!  It’s just practicing time right now; it’ll be a couple of months before he really has to be in there.

Here’s a link to the photos we took of the big-boy room!

Vacation

Chuck took a bunch of vacation days this week, so we’ve been busy but having a great time!  On Monday, we went to the park before I had to work that evening.  On Tuesday, we enjoyed a fun day late morning/early afternoon day in the sun at Gruener Beach by Nicky’s pool.  Yesterday, Chuck had to work, so Nicky and I went to Margaret’s house to play with Parker’s bounce house and other outdoor toys.  After his nap in the afternoon, we went to Charlotte Beach for Nicky’s very first picnic and to hear the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra play swing music.  Today, I had my test for gestational diabetes and got a haircut while Chuck and Nicky ran some errands.

We’ve been busy with Nicky’s big-boy room this week, too; our neighbor helped Chuck move the heavy furniture out of the room so that we could clean the carpet, then we brought up the new bed and started setting it up.  Today, for the very first time, Nicky is taking his nap in the big-boy bed!
